LEVEL 1 power amplifier with Bluetooth LDAC
The LEVEL 1 is a compact desktop power amplifier built around the Texas Instruments TPA3255 platform, designed to deliver high output in a small chassis. It integrates Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC, along with USB, coaxial, and analogue inputs, allowing it to function as the central hub for both digital and wireless sources. With up to 2×300W at 4Ω and support for subwoofer and pre-out expansion, it can anchor anything from a nearfield desktop system to a more substantial speaker setup.
High output from a compact platform
The TPA3255 amplifier stage allows the LEVEL 1 to deliver up to 300 watts per channel at 4 ohms. That level of output places it well beyond typical desktop amplification, giving it enough headroom to drive inefficient bookshelf speakers and some floor-standing designs. The included 48V/5A power supply supports stable daily use, while higher-capacity external supplies can increase dynamic headroom.
Low distortion amplification with integrated feedback
At the core of the amplifier is the TPA3255 chip, which uses integrated feedback and high-speed error correction to maintain low distortion across its operating range. THD+N remains controlled even at higher output levels, while the signal-to-noise ratio of around 105dB keeps background noise low.
Internal layout focused on stability
The amplifier’s internal design prioritises signal integrity. A six-layer PCB with thick copper traces supports consistent power delivery across the circuit. Enclosed inductors reduce electromagnetic interference, which can otherwise introduce noise into sensitive audio stages.
Digital and analogue connectivity
The LEVEL 1 supports USB, coaxial, line-in, and Bluetooth inputs, allowing it to connect directly to computers, streamers, CD players, and mobile devices. USB input handles up to 24-bit/96kHz PCM, providing a direct path from digital sources without requiring an external DAC in simpler systems.
Wireless playback with LDAC
Bluetooth 6.0 is included for wireless playback, with support for SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. LDAC can transmit at bitrates up to 990 kbps, which allows more data to pass through compared to standard Bluetooth codecs.
Expansion through subwoofer and pre-out
The inclusion of dedicated subwoofer and pre-out connections allows the amplifier to scale with a system. A powered subwoofer can be added for low-frequency extension, while the pre-out enables integration with external amplification stages.
Direct tonal control
Bass and treble controls are available on the front panel, allowing for quick adjustments without navigating software or menus. The controls are analogue and continuous, providing predictable changes to tonal balance.
Material design and thermal considerations
The chassis combines aluminium alloy with real wood panels. Beyond appearance, the materials contribute to heat dissipation and structural rigidity. Class D amplification is efficient by design, but stable thermal behaviour still supports long listening sessions without performance drop.
