The Shanling EC Zero AKM is a portable CD player built for use on the move, with anti-shake systems and an active magnetic clamp for skip-free playback. An AKM AK4493S DAC gives a warm, natural sound, and two SGM8262 amplifiers deliver up to 836mW into 32Ω. It also rips CDs to a USB drive, transmits Bluetooth and works as a USB DAC. It is a simpler version of the valve-equipped EC Zero T.
Skip-free CD playback
The active magnetic clamp keeps adjusting its position and pressure on the disc, which steadies the spin and cuts mechanical noise and vibration. A compact custom CD drive plays every CD gaplessly. Shanling designed the anti-shake systems for walking as well as sitting, with the player flat or upright, and every unit is tested and calibrated in production.
Sound and outputs
The AK4493S DAC feeds two SGM8262 headphone amplifiers with 100-step volume control, enough for sensitive earbuds and full-size headphones. There are 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs, 3.5mm and 4.4mm line outputs, and a combined 3.5mm coaxial/optical output, so it can also feed a hi-fi system. Bluetooth 5.3 sends audio to wireless headphones in aptX Adaptive, aptX or SBC.
Battery, ripping and USB
The 5,500mAh battery lasts up to 10 hours from the headphone outputs, or 18 hours as a Bluetooth transmitter. At home, an external power mode runs it from a USB-C adapter (5V/2A), which raises the output power and spares the battery. It rips CDs at 1× speed to a FAT32 USB drive as WAV files, and as a USB DAC it plays PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512.
