The Grado SR80x is the longest-running Grado headphone. The first pair was built in 1991, and Grado says it wouldn’t be where it is today without it: hundreds of thousands of listeners know it for its soundstage, speed and Grado’s world-renowned midrange. This open-air, on-ear Prestige Series model has a fourth-generation 44mm X Series driver, a redesigned cable and headband, and is hand-assembled in Brooklyn.
Signature Grado sound
Grado drivers can reveal new notes and details in songs you have heard hundreds of times. The driver and housing work together to react to sound vibrations and virtually eliminate transient distortion, and full-bodied vocals and excellent dynamics join the clarity and wide range of the SR80x.
X Series driver
The fourth generation of Grado drivers is tuned specifically for the SR80x. A more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with less effective mass and a reconfigured diaphragm improve the efficiency of the 44mm driver, reduce distortion and preserve the harmonic integrity of the music. The drivers are de-stressed and matched to within 0.1dB.
New cable and headband
The cable and headband were redesigned with the drivers. The 4-conductor cable uses super-annealed copper for a purer signal, in a more durable braided sheath, and the vinyl headband has more padding for comfort. The housing is polycarbonate, and the SR80x comes with Grado’s S cushions.
Hand-built in Brooklyn
Grado was founded on a kitchen table in 1953 and has perfected sound reproduction ever since. Each SR80x goes from workbench to workbench in Brooklyn until it is ready for your ears.
