The FiiO KA13 is a mini desktop amp in a dongle. Two Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs and two low-noise SGM8262 op-amps play PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit and native DSD256, and FiiO’s desktop mode, previously found on its larger M17, Q7 and M15S, raises the balanced output to 550mW. Both 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs fit in its CNC-machined metal body, along with an S/PDIF digital output, an RGB light window that shows the sample rate, and USB-C, Lightning and USB-A cables. It won a VGP 2024 Summer Life Style award.

Desktop mode, now in a dongle

FiiO’s desktop mode first appeared on the M17 player, the Q7 DAC/amp and the M15S, and audiophiles loved having desktop-level power from portable gear. The KA13 brings it to a dongle; the engraved lightning-bolt logo is the hint. With desktop mode on, the 4.4mm balanced output delivers up to 550mW per channel into 32Ω and the 3.5mm output 170mW, enough to drive both low- and high-impedance headphones with good dynamics and detail.

Dual DACs, dual amps

Two high-performance, highly efficient CS43131 DAC chips and two low-noise SGM8262 op-amps make a truly “dual-core” combination: rediscover your music collection and hear details you hadn’t noticed. Despite its tiny size, the KA13 decodes PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256, and it is Hi-Res Audio certified.

3.5mm and 4.4mm in one dongle

FiiO’s engineers reworked the design several times to fit both a 3.5mm single-ended and a 4.4mm balanced headphone output into such a compact dongle. The 3.5mm socket also works as a coaxial S/PDIF output: turn it on in the FiiO Control app and the KA13 converts USB audio to S/PDIF for an external DAC.

Works with your phone, tablet and computer

The cable detaches, and with the included USB-C and Lightning cables the KA13 works with Android, iOS, Windows and Mac devices straight away, without buying another cable. Physical buttons change the volume with a short press and skip tracks with a long press.

A window into your music

The RGB light window shows the sample rate at a glance: light blue for PCM up to 48kHz, yellow above 48kHz and green for DSD. On Android, the FiiO Control app lets you set the light (or turn it off), switch on the S/PDIF output and choose digital filters.

Aggressive, futuristic design

The CNC-machined metal body has distinctive lines on the front and a fine texture on the back, and is soft to the touch. The front glass carries an anti-scratch film.

• Desktop mode draws more power from your phone or laptop; turn it off to save battery when you don’t need the extra drive.
