Chord C-USB C-B 1m Cable

C-USB is the entry-level USB cable in The Chord Company’s award-winning C-series. This version runs from a USB-C plug to a square USB-B plug, and is 1m long. Chord designed it in the UK for PC, laptop or phone-based music systems and calls it a good introduction to digital cable upgrades. Use it to connect the USB-C port of a phone, tablet, laptop or computer to the USB-B input of a desktop DAC, headphone amp, amplifier or powered speakers.

How Chord builds it

Inside are high-purity, low-resistance conductors: heavy-gauge oxygen-free copper with silver plating, which Chord uses for optimum signal transfer. The data conductors run as twisted pairs and sit in high-density insulation. Around them, a lapped foil screen gives dual-layer high-frequency shielding, which Chord says helps to combat high-frequency interference.

Both plugs are precision gold-plated connectors, so they avoid tarnishing and corrosion.

Why USB-C

Chord points out that more and more hi-fi equipment uses USB-C, thanks to its versatility and high data rates. Chord designed its USB-C cables to suit the USB-C ports on the latest iPhone models, recent iPad Pro tablets, MacBook laptops and other Apple devices too. The C-B version lets those sources play into the many DACs and amps that still have a USB-B input.

What the press says

The C-USB box carries a Hi-Fi Choice Recommended badge. In its July 2025 review, Hi-Fi Choice used this USB-C to USB-B version to connect a Samsung phone to a DAC and found the sound “surprisingly good”, with “a very rich and full presentation”. It praised the “robust connectors” and called C-USB “a very well-made product with excellent quality connectors and … a real step up compared with many cheaper computer-grade USB cables.”

Other versions

Chord makes the USB-C C-USB as A-C, C-B and C-C, in lengths from 0.5m to 3m. Chord describes C-USB as its most affordable USB-C cable, ideal for everyday users, newcomers and gifting. The step up is Chord’s Clearway USB, with alloy-sleeved plugs and foil-and-braid shielding.

Good to know

• Check which end goes where: the USB-C plug goes into the phone, tablet or computer, the square USB-B plug into the DAC or amp.
• Chord’s install advice: switch your equipment off before fitting the cable, hold the plug rather than the cable, and avoid bending it hard. If the cable has direction arrows, point them away from the source.
