MEET THE H7
A portable DAC/amp with AK4499EX + AK4191EQ, up to 1.3W at 32Ω, microSD playback, LDAC Bluetooth and three headphone outputs.
AK4191EQ and AK4499EX split the conversion for better performance.
Play lossless files straight from microSD, controlled from the Eddict app.
3.5mm, 4.4mm and 6.35mm, plus RCA, with up to 1300mW at 32Ω.
The Shanling H7 is a high-end portable DAC and headphone amplifier with a special built-in music player. It was the first Shanling design built around AKM’s new flagship DAC system, the AK4191EQ modulator with the AK4499EX DAC, and drives headphones with up to 1,300mW into 32Ω from its 4.4mm output. It connects by USB, coaxial, optical or LDAC Bluetooth, plays straight from a microSD card under control of your phone, and adds RCA line outputs and 6.35mm, 4.4mm and 3.5mm headphone sockets.

After more than 34 years of making hi-fi, Shanling took a significant step into high-end portable DAC/amps with the H7. It continues Shanling’s tradition of top-class construction, with an aviation-grade aluminium shell and nicely rounded shapes that are comfortable to use and carry. A compact 1.44-inch monochrome OLED display and a pair of ALPS wheels control it all. It comes in Supersonic Titanium or Twilight Black.

Thanks to its microSD card slot (up to 2TB), the H7 plays lossless files directly, in the highest quality and without any cables or Bluetooth degradation, up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512. Pair it with Shanling’s Eddict Player app to control your whole music library from your phone. The player runs on an Ingenic X2000 platform.

The H7 combines the AK4191EQ delta-sigma modulator with the AK4499EX DAC, splitting the digital-to-analogue process between two chips for better performance in both domains. AKM’s approach gives even better sound than its older AK4499, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 123dB and distortion of 0.0006%. Six digital filters let you fine-tune the sound.

Three gain levels match a wide range of headphones: the lowest gives hiss-free playback with the most sensitive in-ear monitors, and high gain unleashes 450mW into 32Ω single-ended or a powerful 1.3W balanced, enough for even the most demanding audiophile headphones.

A third-generation XMOS XU316, a 16-core audio chip, gives a stable asynchronous USB connection with full support for PCM, DSD and MQA (8× unfolding over USB for TIDAL). Use the H7 with a phone (iPhones with a Lightning port need a Lightning cable, sold separately), with most tablets for games and films, with a computer as a desktop DAC, or switch it to UAC 1.0 mode for gaming systems such as the PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The Bluetooth 5.0 input (the H7 is a receiver only) takes LDAC from Android phones and AAC from iPhones for quick, easy listening.

A coaxial and optical input connects a wide range of sources, and the RCA line outputs (2.4V) let you connect active speakers directly for a compact system.

LED indicators show what is playing at a glance: the sample-rate light is blue for 44.1/48kHz, yellow for 88.2–192kHz, purple for 352.8–768kHz and green for DSD, and an MQA light shows MQA, MQA Studio and MQA rendering. The left wheel switches inputs (press) and skips tracks (turn), and holds for the settings menu; the right wheel sets the volume, plays and pauses, locks the controls with a double press and turns the H7 on and off.

Two industry-standard 18650 cells give 6,800mAh, with a dedicated power-management chip that extends playing time and the life of the batteries: up to 10 hours single-ended or 8 hours balanced.
