The HiFiMAN Arya Unveiled is a grille-free, fully open-back planar magnetic headphone. HiFiMAN’s UNVEILED design, which debuted in 2024 on the reference Susvara Unveiled, removes the grille that can interfere with the movement of the nanometer-thickness diaphragm, so the soundstage widens with greater depth for an exceptionally pure, transparent sound. Stealth Magnets, a lightweight build and breathable pads make it comfortable for long sessions.
Why remove the grille?
Sound waves from the driver can be reflected and refracted by a grille back onto the very light diaphragm, affecting it and diminishing sound quality. Common headphones use mesh with a low opening ratio, which causes these reflections. HiFiMAN’s window-shade design increases the opening and reduces them, but cannot avoid them completely: only removing the window shade or grille entirely gets close to lossless sound.
Magnetic Veils
Specially designed magnetic Veils protect the fully open drivers. Because of the driver’s magnetic properties, fit them over the cups whenever the headphones are not in use, so they don’t attract small metal objects.
Nanometer-thickness diaphragm
The diaphragm is under a millionth of a metre thick. It is extremely light, giving very fast response, outstanding dynamic range and frequency characteristics, low distortion and fine detail, and together with Stealth Magnets it keeps the sound clear and non-fatiguing even after hours of listening.
Stealth Magnets
The streamlined cross-section of the Stealth Magnets reduces air turbulence and diffraction between them, so sound passes almost unaffected; HiFiMAN describes them as disappearing in front of the sound wave. Conventional planar magnets get in the way of the sound wave, electrostatic stators interfere with it, and dynamic drivers suffer distortion across the diaphragm surface.
Comfort
An ergonomic headband and soft, breathable earpads give a secure, comfortable fit, and the lightweight structure reduces pressure for extended listening.
