The Audio-Technica ATH-WP900 is a portable, closed-back over-ear headphone with beautiful flame maple housings, made for high-fidelity listening on the go. The flame maple finish comes from the Japanese guitar maker Fujigen, exclusive 53mm drivers with DLC-coated diaphragms cover 5Hz to 50kHz, and two detachable cables are included: 3.5mm for phones and everyday devices, and 4.4mm balanced for high-resolution players and amplifiers. The earcups swivel flat into the included pouch, and like all Audio-Technica wooden headphones the WP900 is hand-assembled in Tokyo.
Flame maple, finished by Fujigen
Maple is a stiff, dense wood often used to make string instruments such as guitars and violins. For the WP900, Audio-Technica fuses a thin slice of flame-grain maple on top of solid, machined maple, producing housings that ensure clear, natural sound and look as good as they sound. The flame maple finish, by Japanese guitar manufacturer Fujigen, brings out the unique grain of each housing, for a one-of-a-kind beauty that will deepen with age.
53mm drivers and an angled baffle
The exclusive 53mm drivers have powerful magnetic circuits for exceptional full-range audio. A DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating on the diaphragms improves high-frequency response, and the top-mounted PCB construction helps regulate airflow, so the diaphragm moves precisely. A specially designed angled baffle improves airflow between the front and rear of the diaphragm, for better low- and mid-range reproduction, and positions the earcups optimally over your ears, for comfort and a good seal that keeps the sound in.
With a frequency response up to 50kHz, the WP900 goes well beyond the 40kHz that Hi-Res Audio asks of headphones.
Two cables, swivel-flat cups
A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) jacks give a secure connection to the two included 1.2m detachable cables. One has a 3.5mm (1/8") gold-plated stereo mini-plug for smartphones and standard audio devices. The other has a 4.4mm, 5-pole gold-plated balanced plug for high-resolution digital audio players and balanced headphone amplifiers.
The earpads and headband are smooth synthetic leather for long-lasting comfort, it weighs only 243g without a cable, and the earcups swivel flat so it travels easily in the included carrying pouch.
