The Shanling M1 Plus is a compact MTouch music player, the smaller and more affordable sibling of the M5 Ultra, with Shanling’s full feature set and, Shanling says, the highest output in its class. At 86 × 61 × 17mm and 116g it pairs an ESS ES9069Q DAC with two SGM8262 amplifiers for up to 661mW into 32Ω from its 4.4mm balanced output, enough for anything from small earphones to full-size headphones. Wi-Fi with Tidal, DLNA and AirPlay, two-way Bluetooth 5.2, a two-way USB connection, a coaxial output and up to 12.5 hours of playback complete it.
A compact powerhouse
Two SGM8262 amplifiers form a balanced amplifier giving 661mW into 32Ω from the 4.4mm output on high gain (187mW on low gain) and 195mW from the 3.5mm output (47mW on low gain). The aluminium and glass body follows the bold, modern design Shanling introduced with the M5 Ultra, with a 3.2-inch touchscreen that balances easy touch control with a compact size for daily use.
ESS ES9069Q, tuned by experts
The ES9069Q is a hi-fi grade ESS DAC for detailed, accurate and dynamic sound, with a 122dB signal-to-noise ratio and 0.0007% THD+N. It plays PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512, with eight digital filters and adjustable gain.
Signal processing from Shanling’s high-end players
The M1 Plus uses the same advanced signal processing as Shanling’s high-end models: the latest generation of its in-house FPGA technology, with two independent Japanese KDS active crystal oscillators (90.3168MHz and 98.304MHz) for precise timing. Japanese ELNA Silmic II capacitors add to a pleasing, natural tuning.
MTouch: a music-dedicated system
Shanling’s in-house MTouch OS, refined over more than six years, is a simple, fast system focused purely on audio playback, running on the triple-core Ingenic X2000 platform. Music plays from a microSD card of up to 2TB, and the illuminated volume wheel glows green or blue, to match your mood, and red while charging.
Tidal, Wi-Fi and the Eddict Player app
Connect to Wi-Fi and the full Tidal library streams directly on the M1 Plus, developed in co-operation between Shanling and Tidal (online playback only; offline downloads are not available). Wi-Fi also brings DLNA, AirPlay and over-the-air updates, and with SyncLink the Eddict Player app on Android or iOS lets you control playback and browse the whole microSD library from your phone.
Two-way Bluetooth 5.2
Use the M1 Plus as a source for Bluetooth headphones and speakers, or turn it into a Bluetooth DAC and amp for your smartphone on the go, with LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC in both directions.
USB and coaxial
The two-way USB-C connection makes the M1 Plus a USB DAC for a computer or phone (up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256), or sends a digital signal out to an external DAC. The 3.5mm socket doubles as a coaxial S/PDIF output, up to 192kHz/24-bit.
Up to 12.5 hours
The 2,100mAh battery and advanced power management give up to 12.5 hours from the 3.5mm output, 10 hours balanced, 24 hours as a Bluetooth transmitter and up to 270 hours on standby (Shanling’s tests; real use may differ), and it works with QC and PD chargers. The M1 Plus is certified Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless by the Japan Audio Society.
