Read the full description

The iBasso AMP18 is a swappable amplifier card for the iBasso DX340, DX320 and DX300 players. An 80-transistor matrix, a cascaded current-feedback circuit and a two-stage design give up to 1,740mW per channel into 32Ω when a DX340 runs from 12V DC, through dual 4.4mm balanced outputs: one for headphones and a dedicated line out.

iBasso AMP18 amplifier card

80 transistors on a card

The AMP18 breaks through the size limits of an amp card: 40 dual transistors form an 80-transistor matrix, which iBasso calls a feat of real difficulty. Good circuit design and so many high-quality transistors give it higher current output, better compatibility with low-impedance headphones and outstanding sound.

Cascaded current feedback

Traditional headphone amplifiers often use deep, large-loop negative feedback. That lowers static distortion but delays the signal, so sudden dynamics such as drums or intense passages lose speed, punch and detail. The AMP18 uses a cascaded current-feedback circuit instead, avoiding that transient distortion while keeping its dynamic range and fast transient response.

Two-stage amplification

The first stage combines low-noise op-amps with transistors: the op-amps restore the detail in the source, while the transistors boost drive so the signal isn’t weakened early on. The second stage uses current-mirror amplification with complementary outputs for linear current output. Beats start and stop crisply with natural decay, and details such as violin harmonics or a singer’s breath come through clearly.

Two-stage amplification of the iBasso AMP18

The complementary output stage amplifies the positive and negative halves of the waveform symmetrically, greatly reducing the asymmetric distortion of conventional transistor output stages. Without clipping, deep bass and treble extension stay clean, the dry “digital” sound is reduced and the result is warmer and more natural.

1,740mW per channel on 12V DC

With the DX340’s external 12V DC supply the AMP18 swings ±12V and, in super-gain mode, delivers 1,740mW + 1,740mW into 32Ω, enough for almost any headphones or IEMs, with deep, impactful bass, a full midrange and clean, extended treble. On battery it gives 1,170mW + 1,170mW.

Dual 4.4mm balanced outputs

One 4.4mm socket is the headphone output, for better drive and sound with flagship headphones and IEMs; the other is a dedicated balanced line output, a clean source for an external headphone amplifier, so a DX340 with the AMP18 can be the heart of a full hi-fi system. The card also fits the DX300 and DX320, transforming their sound too.

Good to know

  • The 12V DC power mode needs a DX340 (power supply sold separately). The DX300 and DX320 run the AMP18 on battery only.
  • Update your DX340 to firmware 1.07 or later before fitting the AMP18.
  • In the box: AMP18 card, screwdriver, spare screws and warranty card.
