The Shanling EH1 is a compact desktop DAC and headphone amplifier for anyone moving up from a dongle or a laptop’s headphone socket. A Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC and two SGM8262 amplifiers deliver up to 1,015mW from the 4.4mm balanced output, and it adds 6.35mm, RCA line/pre-out and coaxial outputs, plus real treble and bass controls, in a curved aluminium case just 156mm wide.
Clean conversion, plenty of power
Shanling chose the CS43198 for its very clean measurements and tuned the circuit with Sanyou, Panasonic and Silmic II capacitors. It plays PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512, with a 122dB signal-to-noise ratio at the line output. Two gain levels, low output impedance and a precise volume wheel suit everything from sensitive in-ear monitors to full-size planar headphones.

Tone controls and handy touches
A built-in analogue tone circuit adjusts treble by up to ±10dB and bass by ±6dB, a quick way to match the sound to your headphones or taste. A coloured light ring around the volume wheel shows the sample rate being played (white for DSD), and a UAC 1.0 mode makes the EH1 work with games consoles and older devices. It is certified for Hi-Res Audio and comes in silver or black.

- For full power, power the EH1 through its DC input with the supplied USB-A to DC cable and a 5V USB charger.
- There is no Bluetooth: the EH1 connects by USB.
