HiFiMAN Svanar Flagship Dynamic In-Ear Monitor

The HiFiMAN Svanar is HiFiMAN’s flagship single dynamic driver in-ear monitor. Its name is Swedish for “swan”, a bird known for elegance, beauty and grace, and HiFiMAN spent years on its shape so that it is as comfortable as a custom-fit IEM. A 9.2mm driver with HiFiMAN’s Topology diaphragm sits in a 24K gold-plated brass and aluminium shell, for a wide soundstage with sweet, accurate treble, a rich midrange and deep, steady bass.

Comfort by design

The Svanar ranks among the most comfortable, form-fitting in-ear monitors. HiFiMAN’s engineers used brass for the front chamber and aluminium alloy for the rear, so the centre of gravity rests at the pinna, the visible part of the outer ear. Research and customer feedback showed that a centre of gravity outside the pinna, as many makers use, stresses the ear canal; this design gives stability and comfort for hours.

Brass chamber with 24K gold plating

Brass’s resonant performance and density reinforce the sound through synchronous vibration. HiFiMAN paired a 24K gold-plated copper-zinc brass front chamber with an aluminium alloy rear cavity, using different materials front and back to enhance resonance.

The Topology driver

The Topology diaphragm has a special nano-particle coating on its surface, laid out in distinct geometric patterns. By varying the pattern, the compound and the thickness, HiFiMAN can shape how sound waves form to reach the tuning it wants. The idea came from Dr Fang Bian’s PhD thesis: different nano materials have different structures and properties, so carefully controlling the diaphragm’s surface gives acoustic results previously unobtainable.

A concert-hall soundstage

Watching “Swan Lake” at the Moscow State Theatre, HiFiMAN’s team noticed how the sunken orchestra pit and the secondary diffusion ceiling extended the soundstage. To bring that to the Svanar they developed a cavity optimised by a new algorithm, a phase-conducting structure and an earpiece made of custom materials. The result solves three problems at once: accurate, sweet treble, a rich, sustained midrange and deep, steady bass, balanced at the point where the frequency responses meet.

Silver-coated cable

The supplied cable is silver-coated crystalline copper with a 3.5mm plug, and its standard 2-pin connectors let you swap or upgrade it easily.
