The HiFiMAN Susvara is HiFiMAN’s flagship open-back planar magnetic headphone: “a heavenly melody”, with a harmonious, sweetly voiced sound. A nanometer-grade diaphragm, the Stealth Magnets that HiFiMAN first introduced on the Susvara and the patented window-shade grille give a 6Hz–75kHz response with very low distortion, in a premium build designed for superb comfort over long sessions.
Stealth Magnets, first on the Susvara
The advanced magnet design used for the first time on the Susvara aims to be acoustically transparent: its special shape lets sound waves pass through without interference, greatly reducing the wave diffraction turbulence that degrades the sound. In a conventional planar headphone the magnets get in the way of the sound wave; electrostatic headphones suffer similar interference from their stators, and a dynamic driver’s response is altered by distortion and vibration across its diaphragm. The result is reduced distortion and a purer, more harmonious sound.
Nanometer-grade diaphragm
The diaphragm is less than a millionth of a metre thick, and its extremely low mass gives tremendously low distortion with a highly dynamic response. Working together with the Stealth Magnets, it gives remarkable tonal quality and clarity.
Sonic serenity: the window shade
The Susvara’s window-shade grille has been painstakingly optimised to avoid resonant frequencies, for a pure, clean and unadulterated sound, while protecting the ultra-fine diaphragm and adding to the look.
Form follows function
A special ergonomic design gives superb comfort for extended listening.
Partnering amplifiers
With 83dB sensitivity the Susvara needs a powerful amplifier. HiFiMAN’s official partner is its EF1000, which combines six 6922 vacuum tubes with a solid-state output stage and a separate power supply; a high-power desktop amplifier such as the HiFiMAN Goldenwave Prelude is another option.
