Read the full description
The HiFiMAN ISVARNA is a high-end hybrid headphone for listeners who want the speed, clarity and detail of a planar magnetic driver with deeper, more speaker-like bass. It pairs a full-range planar driver with a dedicated dynamic low-frequency driver, a headphone “subwoofer”, so the bass is strong and extended without losing the openness HiFiMAN planars are known for. At 16Ω and 93dB it works with a wide range of amplifiers and sources.
More low-frequency response
HiFiMAN compares the ISVARNA’s response with its flagship Susvara: the extra driver lifts the low frequencies for audiophile-grade sound with real bass impact.
Learning from speakers
Speakers split the work between a woofer and a tweeter with a crossover. At a listening distance of a few metres, the small difference in position between the drivers makes little difference in phase. In a headphone the drivers sit very close to the ear, so that difference becomes large and can harm the sound.
How HiFiMAN solves the phase problem
A special mounting angle for the primary planar driver, combined with a dynamic “subwoofer”, solves the phase issue. HiFiMAN’s own oval-shaped dynamic driver handles the low frequencies, the full-range planar driver takes the mids and highs, and a crossover at around 300Hz divides them. Inside the aluminium alloy housing sit the dust cover, dynamic subwoofer, crossover, planar driver and plate.
Stealth Magnets and a nanometer diaphragm
The unique shape of HiFiMAN’s Stealth Magnets lets sound pass through at maximum resolution, avoiding the degradation of traditional magnets. The nanometer-thickness diaphragm weighs just a few micrograms, giving ultra-fast response, exceptional dynamic range, precise frequency response and minimal distortion.
Comfort and three cables
The aluminium alloy housing gives a premium, modern feel, and the ergonomic headband and sculpted earpads are made for long sessions. Three detachable cables suit any setup: a 1.5m single-ended 3.5mm cable for portable players, phones and computers, a 3m single-ended 6.35mm cable and a 3m balanced XLR cable for headphone amplifiers.
