The FiiO LC-78A is a pair of tiny MMCX-female to 0.78mm 2-pin male adapters: cable swaps, elegantly and almost invisibly. FiiO made them so owners of the FiiO FD11 and FH11, FiiO’s “Little Conch” 2-pin earphones, can use a much wider choice of MMCX cables.
Two connectors, one small adapter
Detachable earphone cables use one of two connectors: the well-established MMCX, more common on higher-priced models, or the newer 0.78mm 2-pin, often found on more affordable ones. Even within one brand’s range there is no consistent pattern. At only about 6.5mm across and 11mm long, the LC-78A lets you pick the cable you prefer.
One unibody piece
Unlike adapters assembled by welding and splicing, the LC-78A is made from a single piece of copper with no joints in the middle, so it is more resilient and passes the signal better. The pins, the most important part of any adapter, use gold-plated phosphor copper on the outside for excellent conductivity and gold-plated beryllium copper inside for rigidity and reliability.
The helpful little red dot
A red dot shows which way round to plug in. Match the positive and negative poles of the adapter and the earphone, positive to positive and negative to negative, and use the supplied MMCX quick-release tool to unplug MMCX connectors as shown.
