FiiO Jade Audio JT3 50mm Dynamic Driver Headphones

The FiiO Jade Audio JT3 are affordable open-back headphones built around a large 50mm dynamic driver, for a relaxed, spacious sound with lifelike detail, natural vocals and robust bass. A PEK+PU composite diaphragm, a Japanese TIL voice-coil former with an ultra-fine CCAW coil and N52 magnets give low distortion and high resolution, while velvet pads, an aluminium-magnesium grille and a 330g frame make them comfortable for hours. The detachable cable has an in-line microphone for calls and games.

A 50mm driver

The JT3’s 50mm driver is large for its class, so it moves more air with greater force, giving rich detail, a vast soundstage and potent bass.

Its diaphragm combines PEK (polyetherketone, a rigid, heat- and chemical-resistant plastic) with a PU (polyurethane) surround that blends the best of rubber and plastic: hard and soft together, for a light diaphragm that sounds good. A built-in brass damping ring reduces distortion and unwanted break-up so every nuance comes through.

Light voice coil, strong magnets

The voice coil is wound on a lightweight Japanese TIL former, a composite of glass fibre and polyimide that is thin, strong and heat-resistant and, being non-metallic, free from eddy-current losses, so the coil keeps its shape through long sessions. The coil itself is ultra-fine CCAW (copper-clad aluminium wire), combining aluminium’s lightness with copper’s conductivity to lighten the diaphragm and raise efficiency and sensitivity. High-performance N52 neodymium magnets drive it, improving transients, efficiency and resolution.

Open back, angled drivers

The open-back design recreates a natural listening space, avoiding the pressure build-up and standing waves of closed headphones for a wide, immersive soundstage with accurate imaging. The perforated aluminium-magnesium grille is light and lets sound escape evenly. Inside, the drivers are angled to match the shape of your ear, delivering sound more directly and improving the airflow in the earcup.

Comfortable for hours

The pads are smooth velvet over memory foam; the dense fibres stay wrinkle-free and durable, and the pads detach for washing or replacement. At 330g, with ball-bearing sliders that click clearly through the sizes and a stainless steel and zinc alloy headband, the JT3 sits securely without clamping too tightly.

A detachable cable with microphone

The 4N palladium-plated oxygen-free copper cable connects with dual 3.5mm plugs, marked blue for left and red for right, and has an in-line microphone and controls for calls and gaming. Because it detaches, you can swap it for other cables, including balanced ones, and a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter is included for desktop amplifiers.

Good to know

• At 80Ω the JT3 plays from phones and laptops, but a small amp or dongle such as the FiiO KA11 gives it more control.
