The Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000X is an audiophile, open-air headphone that is feather-light and comfortable enough for hours of stereo listening without fatigue. Large-aperture 53mm drivers with bobbin-wound CCAW voice coils and a Permendur magnetic circuit give clear, natural vocals and instruments, a smooth tonal balance, precise imaging and wide dynamic range, with crisp resolution and deep, balanced bass. Audio-Technica says it excels with classical and audiophile recordings.
53mm drivers and a Permendur magnet
The drivers’ CCAW (copper-clad aluminium wire) voice coils are bobbin-wound, reproducing the signal with crisp resolution. A two-part magnetic circuit increases efficiency and richness, and it is made of Permendur, an alloy of equal parts iron and cobalt, for exceptional sound quality and a wide range. Audio-Technica’s Double Air Damping System (D.A.D.S.) extends the frequency range downwards, for precise, deep bass. The response reaches 45kHz, enough for high-resolution audio.
Light and comfortable
Magnesium alloy keeps the structure light and very rigid, so the headphones weigh only 265g, and lightweight aluminium honeycomb casings add to the comfort over long sessions. There is no sense of pressure on the ears, just a natural feel.
Instead of a normal headband, the 3D Wing Support has two self-adjusting wings that adapt to every shape and size of head. They exert little pressure and no force on the crown of your head, and the vibration-proof mechanism supports the headphones comfortably. The ear-fitting pads are made of extremely supple yet durable suede.
PCOCC cable
The 3m cable is premium PCOCC (Pure Copper Ohno Continuous Cast) for excellent conduction without altering the sound. It is Y-shaped, feeding both earcups, with four conductors, so the left and right channels have independent ground wires. It ends in a gold-plated 3.5mm plug, and a 6.3mm adapter is included.
