MEET THE Audio
A manual direct-drive turntable with a J-shaped tonearm, AT-VM95E cartridge, switchable MM/MC preamp and 33⅓, 45 and 78 RPM.
A low-noise motor and die-cast aluminium platter for stable speed.
Minimises tracking errors, with the AT-VM95E cartridge fitted.
Switchable MM/MC for systems with or without a phono input.
The Audio-Technica AT-LP5x is a fully manual, direct-drive turntable that plays at 33⅓, 45 and 78 RPM, with a J-shaped tonearm, an AT-VM95E dual moving magnet cartridge fitted, a built-in switchable MM/MC phono preamp and a USB output, all in a mass-damped, high-density polymer cabinet with an elegant matte black finish. Drawing on Audio-Technica’s analogue heritage and more than 50 years of Japanese audio design, it upgrades the acclaimed AT-LP5 while keeping its contemporary style, with enhanced low-frequency reproduction.

The J-shaped tonearm takes its inspiration from the classic Audio-Technica models of the 1960s and ’70s. A metallic gimbal suspension and precision bearings minimise tracking errors, and it has an adjustable counterweight and anti-skate control. It comes fitted with the lightweight (9.3g) AT-HS6 headshell carrying the black AT-VM95E dual moving magnet stereo cartridge, which has an elliptical stylus that you can replace.
Being fully manual, the AT-LP5x has no auto-start or auto-return: you lift the arm and lower it onto the record yourself.

A direct-drive, low-noise DC motor turns the precision-machined, die-cast aluminium platter for stable, on-axis rotation at all three speeds, with an electronic brake. On top, a 5mm thick heavy rubber damping mat isolates the record from low-frequency feedback while giving a stable surface for all LP formats, and improves low-frequency reproduction. The cabinet is built from anti-vibration damping materials with heavy-mass metal inserts, to limit low-frequency acoustic feedback. The AC adapter handles the AC/DC conversion outside the chassis, keeping noise out of the signal chain.

The built-in phono preamp is switchable. Set to line, it gives a line-level output for a computer, home stereo, powered speakers and other components without a dedicated turntable input; switched off, it sends the phono signal to your own phono stage. A gain switch sets the preamp for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges, so you can upgrade to a moving coil later. The USB output (16-bit A/D, 44.1 or 48kHz) connects directly to a Windows or Mac computer, so you can record your vinyl.
Audio-Technica got its start in Tokyo in 1962, designing and manufacturing high-performance phono cartridges, and that analogue expertise goes into every turntable it makes.
