The Ferrum WANDLA GoldenSound Edition Gen 2 is Ferrum’s fully balanced WANDLA DAC and preamplifier with three sound-shaping features: Impact+ for the low end, Tube Mode for the warmth of a valve stage, and Spatial Enhancement for the third dimension. In Gen 2, Ferrum’s engineers completely overhauled all three and gave each its own Ferrum Sweet Spot Tuning, so you can find exactly the sound you want. Everything else from the original WANDLA is kept, apart from MQA.
Impact+
The original GoldenSound Edition’s Impact+ added a bass shelf and an extra peak for a beefier, more realistic sound. Gen 2 offers seven shapes of bass and dynamics instead: Reference, Ref+, Smooth, Kick+, DD-Comp, DD-Comp+ and Sub-Bass, including compensation designed for dynamic drivers, and you set the overall level from 10% to 130%, to suit your system, headphones or soundtrack. All processing runs at 64-bit precision.
Tube Mode
Tube Mode used to add the sweetness of the second harmonic. Gen 2 can still do that, and adds the signatures of five popular tubes, EL34, KT88, 300B, 2A3 and 7062, reproduced up to the seventh harmonic, with the level set from 10% to 200%. You get the tube sound without the bulk, heat and cost of real tubes.
Spatial Enhancement
Switch the spatial effect on or off, choose headphone or speaker mode, and engage the new Transient Compensation (T-Comp). T-Comp fine-tunes the algorithm and reduces its effect on high frequencies and transients, for much more realistic three-dimensional staging without the image shifts that traditional crossfeed often causes. All three features are meant to stay subtle and effective.
More headroom, adjustable output
Gen 2 is more immune to intersample overs, even in bypass mode at full output, so music plays free of extra distortion. A hardware voltage divider switches the output between a higher and a lower level, so the WANDLA suits any amplifier without digital volume or extra analogue volume parts in the signal path.

- SERCE: Ferrum’s digital audio module on an optimised ARM chip, for the shortest possible signal path, making five chips redundant.
- Conversion: ESS Sabre ES9038PRO, up to 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512.
- Filters: three ESS filters as standard plus Signalyst Dynamic Digital Filters made for Ferrum (four in all), with more added after feedback from owners.
- Balanced design: a fully balanced, modified IC preamplifier fine-tuned for WANDLA, with balanced XLR and RCA outputs and analogue volume with a bypass option (digital volume for DAC-only use).
- Inputs: specially programmed USB, and tuned coaxial and optical S/PDIF, AES, HDMI ARC (with CEC) and I2S (PS Audio compatible).
- Ease of use: touchscreen, remote control and Ferrum’s Streaming Control Technology.
- Made for HYPSOS: the Ferrum Power Link with 4TSD voltage sensing gets the most from both units.
Upgrades
Owners of the original WANDLA GoldenSound Edition, and of the GoldenSound Edition Converting Plugin, can upgrade to Gen 2 free with a firmware download from Ferrum, and Ferrum also offers the Gen 2 Converting Plugin to all WANDLA owners.
