The Ferrum OOR is a fully balanced, 100% analogue headphone amplifier and preamplifier, a ground-up design created from a profound exploration of analogue audio in its purest form. Behind its understated front is Ferrum’s own discrete power amplifier, delivering up to 8W into 60Ω from the balanced output with ultra-low distortion, huge dynamics and fine detail. It drives almost any headphone to the limit of its potential while preserving the essence of the music, and pairs perfectly with Ferrum’s HYPSOS hybrid power system.
Truly balanced, very transparent
The signal path stays truly balanced from the XLR inputs, and becomes balanced straight after the RCA inputs, to get the most from any headphone. The whole design aims at a balanced, very transparent sound, which Ferrum says makes listening fatigue a thing of the past. Ferrum quotes THD as low as 0.00011% on the balanced output and 0.00008% on the single-ended one, a 130dB dynamic range and a headphone output impedance under 0.3Ω.
Superior control
The discrete power amp technology is developed in-house for the best possible analogue quality. Perfected steering of the output transistors protects them and never lets them switch off, which reduces distortion to inaudible levels and keeps them ready to release all their power instantly, crucial for dynamics, control and authority.
Simple to use
Only three knobs on the front panel cover the most important settings: input (XLR or RCA), gain and volume. The three gains are −4, +6 and +16dB balanced, or −10, 0 and +10dB single-ended. Headphones plug into a balanced 4-pin XLR or a 6.35mm socket, and balanced and single-ended outputs on the back let the OOR work as a preamp. The brightness of the Ferrum logo on the front can be dimmed.
Made for HYPSOS
The OOR performs very well with its supplied DC power adapter, but it is made to excel with HYPSOS. The two connect by the Ferrum Power Link (FPL, cable sold separately): two wires carry the power and two provide feedback to keep the voltage flat at every moment, removing the effect of the cable’s resistance and speeding up current delivery for better transient response.
The OOR is designed and made in Poland by Ferrum’s parent company HEM, by a team of engineers and industrial designers who call themselves a “Brand of Brothers”.
