The Shanling CD80 II is a modernised, highly versatile compact CD player, Shanling’s smallest fully equipped model, that is also a serious headphone source. A tray-loading drive with an HD850 laser plays your CDs, a Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC handles the conversion and a balanced headphone amplifier delivers up to 850mW into 32Ω. It also plays hi-res files from a USB drive and receives LDAC Bluetooth from your phone, with RCA and coaxial outputs for a hi-fi system, all in an aluminium case just 28cm wide.
Modern design, evolved style
The CD80 II combines the design of the original CD80 with the latest style from Shanling’s CD-S100, for a simple, clean-looking CD player that fits into any hi-fi set-up. The lightweight yet very durable aluminium case comes anodised in silver or black.
New screen, still compact
A 1.28-inch colour screen and Shanling’s new interface give direct access to information and settings. At about 28 × 20 × 5cm, the CD80 II is ideal for a desk or a narrow hi-fi rack.
A reliable tray-loading CD drive
The CD80 II uses the same fourth-generation CD system as Shanling’s more advanced CD-S100 (25), combining an HD850 laser with a tray mechanism for accurate, convenient playback of CD, CD-R and CD-RW audio discs.
Proper hi-fi sound at a lower budget
The CS43198 is a hi-fi DAC that combines excellent measurements with lovely sound, balancing detail and excitement without ever sounding sterile, tuned by Shanling engineers with over 37 years of hi-fi experience. Compared with the original CD80, the CD80 II focuses much more on headphone listening: two SGM8262 amplifiers form a balanced headphone amplifier with up to 850mW into 32Ω from the 4.4mm output, a great match not just for earphones but for demanding full-size headphones, and 215mW from the 3.5mm output. As in every Shanling design, even small parts, such as the Panasonic FC capacitors, are chosen through listening tests to reach the ideal tuning.
A truly flexible hi-fi component
Beyond CDs, the CD80 II plays music from a USB drive of up to 2TB, with hi-res support up to PCM 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256, and receives Bluetooth 5.0 from your phone with LDAC, AAC or SBC. Its RCA output works as a fixed line out or a variable pre-out for active speakers or a power amplifier, and the coaxial S/PDIF output sends CDs and USB files up to 24-bit/192kHz to an external DAC.
Simple controls and a companion app
Physical buttons and a wheel on the front and a small remote control make playback easy up close or from across the room. With the Eddict Player app you can quickly browse a connected USB drive, even a very large music library. An Ingenic X1000E processor gives quick start-up and fast responses, all custom-made for pure playback.
The CD80 II is certified Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless by the Japan Audio Society.
