The FiiO FD3 is a single dynamic driver in-ear monitor that brings features from FiiO’s flagship FD5 to a lower price: a 12mm DLC (diamond-like carbon) diaphragm driver with 1.5T magnets, the FD5’s acoustic prism and its interchangeable sound tubes, in a semi-open, CNC-machined aluminium-magnesium shell with a glass-covered faceplate. The FD3 comes with a copper cable and 3.5mm plug; the FD3 Pro adds a silver-plated cable with swappable 2.5mm, 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs. It is Hi-Res Audio certified and won a VGP 2024 Summer award.
A 12mm flagship-level DLC driver
Following its FD-series siblings, the FD3 uses a newly designed 12mm flagship-level dynamic driver. Its diamond-like carbon diaphragm is impressively rigid, which reduces unwanted distortion, yet surprisingly light, for excellent transient response, low distortion and high sensitivity. A strong magnet with 1.5 tesla of flux and an ultra-fine copper-clad aluminium voice coil from Japan’s Daikoku give a powerful sound.
The FD5’s acoustic prism
The acoustic prism used so effectively in the flagship FD5 sits at the front of the FD3’s cavity too. It removes high-frequency standing waves, improves the diffusion of sound waves and corrects the time delays caused by the different paths sound takes inside the cavity, for remarkable sound quality.
Semi-open for a natural, relaxed sound
The semi-open design uses FiiO’s technology for balancing the air pressure inside the earpiece. The sound is more natural, and there is less pressure on your eardrums, so listening is less tiring and the sound less forced.
Interchangeable sound tubes
The interchangeable sound tubes that marked out the FD5 come with the FD3 too. Their outer diameter is the same but the inner diameter differs: choose the large-bore black tubes for detailed treble or the small-bore red tubes for robust bass.
Curves, glass and aluminium-magnesium
The FD3’s simple, beautiful design is built on curves. A unique celluloid panel sits under 2.5D film-coated glass for a fresh, transparent look, and the aluminium-magnesium alloy body, made by five-axis CNC machining and hand polishing, is exceptionally light.
FD3 or FD3 Pro: the cable
The two versions are identical apart from the cable. Both use expanded MMCX connectors for easy cable changes.
