The ONIX Waltz XM10 Ltd is ONIX’s first high-end Android music player, only 11.5mm thin, close to a smartphone. Designed by ONIX, the hi-fi brand born in Brighton in the 1980s, and made by Shanling, it uses AKM’s flagship AK4499EX DAC and AK4191 modulator, gives up to 877mW balanced, and runs open Android 13 so you can install your streaming apps.
From the Miracle system to your pocket
The original XM10 was the streaming platform of ONIX’s high-end Miracle stack, as well as a decent portable player. The Waltz XM10 Ltd takes the same idea and turns it into a fully capable hi-fi player that can rival dedicated portable hi-res players, while staying compatible with the Miracle as its digital transport and streaming centre.
Pushing the design limits
Thinned to just 11.5mm for real portability, the Waltz avoids the bulk of typical hi-fi players. Its stainless steel body feels robust and dense in the hand, with an electroplated finish for a deep, dark, highly polished look. Six hardware buttons and a bright 6-inch 2160 × 1080 touchscreen make it easy to use.
Top-end audio performance
The audio section takes inspiration from the ONIX Mystic XP1: AKM’s flagship AK4499EX DAC and AK4191 ΔΣ modulator for natural sound tuning, ONIX’s in-house “Brighton” I/V conversion circuit (developed for the Miracle), FPGA processing, KDS crystal oscillators and two AD8397 headphone amplifiers for detailed performance in a compact body. It plays PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD1024.
One socket, both outputs
A combined 3.5mm socket works as a normal single-ended output, and the supplied 5-pin 3.5mm to 4.4mm adapter unlocks the balanced output: 877mW into 32Ω on high gain, against 227mW single-ended.
Open Android 13
Upgraded Android 13 means years of updates and wide app compatibility. The fully open system makes it easy to install music and streaming apps, with bit-perfect output from ONIX’s deeply customised Android sound platform, on a Snapdragon 665 with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage plus microSD up to 2TB.
Wireless connections
Dual-band Wi-Fi brings AirPlay 2, DLNA and SyncLink, and two-way Bluetooth 5.0 sends LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC to wireless headphones or receives LDAC and SBC from your phone. As a USB DAC it takes up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256 from a computer.
A 4,300mAh battery
Up to 9 hours of playback from either output, with QC and PD fast charging.
