I've owned some good speakers in my time, I was upgrading my desktop from a portable Bose speaker to these absolutely GORGEOUS speakers and I wasn't disappointed.

Beyond the looks these pack a punch, they sound great! The depth of sound these spea...Read morekers deliver is great, they're perfect for music especially studio heavy songs/albums where the artist has spent a lot of time working on all the different elements to the songs (e.g. Linkin Park Meteora) because you really a well defined sound from these.
And for a simple pair of speakers they pack a lot of bass, you can here it through the floor of my room at fairly moderate levels, they include a bass out too if you feel you require break bone bass.
The build quality is great and in white they look SLICK!

AdvancedMP3 is also the CHEAPEST place to buy these in the UK, a real bargain and worth EVERY penny!

I've read many good reviews of these audio a5+ speakers and been tempted a few times at £299. Over Christmas with the advanced MP3 players reduced price, took the plunge. Currently have a 5.1 system running big old floor standing Tannoys accompanied ...Read moreby two Rel subs, also have Sonos speakers in bedrooms.

Wanted these to couple with an iMac, mainly for listening to music but also for using a keyboard with GarageBand. I do run them via a DAC creative audio e5, haven't connected directly to the iMac yet. I probably haven't burned them in either, 30+ hrs recommended.

My expectations of these has been shattered, they are so much more than I thought was possible for what they are. Very detailed, without being in any way harsh, easy to listen to for long periods, never being fatiguing. Nice soundstage for my small room, could probably be better if I had the space.

After the initial set up I connected these with one of my Rel subs, now we are talking...

Running these with a decent sub is simple outstanding, everyone that has heard these is of the same shocked opinion. you'd need to spend an awful lot of money in the hide world to better these little beauties, couldn't be happier...

I was shopping around for speakers for ages and I really wanted some Bose 5 Companions at first, but wen I looked into it more objectively they seemed to be overpriced for what they were. I then looked at many other options and it seemed no matter ho...Read morew you looked at it the A5+ from audioengine where simply the best speakers available with a built in amp and are small enough to fit on a desk in the £400 or less price range. But I was put off by the £330 price tag. I simply couldn't justify it. Then came along advanced mp3 players offering them for £210 and I have to say it is the best money I have ever spent.

Their mid to high frequencies are unmatched by anything I've head outisde of a concert/gig and I actually had goose bumps when I first heard the vocals on this thing. The bass is also very impressive. My only complain is that you only get a satisfying bone shaking bassy feeling when the volume is turned quite high, which annoys my neighbours. It would be nice if there was some bass boosting option so you could have a heavy bass whithout the overall volume being too high, although definitely will be achievable with software I haven't looked into it yet.

I am thinking of bossibly buying a small sub woofer in the future to complete the set up, but it really doesn't need it if you have a large room with good acoustics and live in a deteatched house (no direct neighbours) and so can let the whole system roar.

Overall I would buy these speaker a thousand times over at this price. They're simply the best.

These are a great pair of speakers. I upgraded to these after owning a pair of Audioengine A2's as I was looking for a sound which was fuller and which had better clarity. The a5+'s did just that and were a worthy upgrade.

The good:

- Sound ima...Read moreging is very good once you have the placement nailed
- The bass response is tight and controlled even at high volumes
- Percussion is punchy and defined
- Vocals and pianos play particularly well on these speakers, the tweeters allow for highs to be heard clearly without being drowned out by the mids.

The not so good:

- After initial installation I thought the sound was lack lustre, this was due to positioning, in my opinion these speakers can be very picky about where you place them. Ensure they are raised off the ground (stand preferable) they do work well on desks too however you need to make sure they have good enough spacing from walls or shelves to prevent large amounts of reverb occurring.

- Overall the clarity of these speakers are impressive, however I think they lack a certain amount balance, I think audioengine have focused a little too much on how the a5+'s reproduce mids to create a more "fun" sound, in my opinion I would have preferred the sound to be a little bit cleaner.

- The a5+ speakers are still limited by their size, when comparing them directly with an old set of B&Wi floor standing speakers I owned, the floor standing speakers came on top with a more balanced fuller sound, like I said these speakers emphasise the lower end and mids a little too much.

Side Notes:

- I have added the audioengine D2 to my sound system as I felt I wasn't getting the most out of the a5+'s using my computers integrated audio. The d2's do help improve clarity in my opinion but whether it is worth the price depends on your music preference.

- I have also added a sub via the a5+'s output ports. It's not that I thought the a5's don't reproduce the low ends well, they do, but I prefer the rumble a subwoofer provides as I think it adds extra depth to the listening experience.
