Well I have to preface this review with 2 things. First was the time it took me to decide whether to get a DAP or to add a DAC/AMP to my existing phone. Finally my phones inability to store very many hi res files made it clear a DAP was the way forwa...Read morerd. So then the decision on which DAP had to be made. This is much trickier than most HiFi kit as not many dealers hold stock or even care much about DAPs. That was where dealing with Advanced MP3 was ideal as with their help and guidance I ended up by taking delivery of an excellent DAP in the shape of the Cayin N5ii.
From my perspective it was very easy to set up to get it onto my home wifi and then to install Tidal HiFi which is something I use a lot to listen to new(er) music or find old stuff that I had forgotten about but don't have on vinyl or CD.
Likewise it was very straightforward to load up the micro SD card from my laptop, pop it in the slot and it was ready to go. Now I should say that I have mostly been an Apple iOS user for phones for the past many years so I was expecting some issues moving onto Android. My fears were unfounded as it was very intuitive although a bit slower than my phone, but that is to be expected and actually it is not an issue any more after the first couple of uses.
In terms of sound quality the Cayin is excellent and better than my phone plus Audioquest Dragonfly which is what I had used as a portable system before. Indeed the Cayin deals with much more hi res files than the Dragonfly can. The Cayin gave a more spacious sound with better stereo imaging and was clearer in the mids and treble. The bass was more dependent on the headphones I used. It was great with my Sennheiser CX 300 iems but felt slightly too warm with my Meze 99 Classics. That is more a function of the Mezes and was easily corrected to my taste with the on board equaliser on the Cayin. I think for some folks the bass would have been perfect and on a more neutral headphone that was true. I tried it with my Sennheiser HD800s and the sound was fantastic but the Cayin needed the volume to be turned up quite far so I wouldn't say it was the perfect pairing but the sound was quite astonishing. It was a close run thing between the Cayin and my ifi Audio desk top rack system when playing Tidal HiFi albums. That tells me it is an excellent DAP and punches way above its bargain price.
So I am very happy with my purchase and my supplier and am enjoying excellent sounds on the move.

Wow! This is the first affordable Hi Res player without any concessions: Android with the possibility to install apps, WiFi, Bluetooth, balanced output. I will try to summarize all my findings after one week of possession:

Finishing: beautiful met...Read moreal casing, everything feels premium. Screen protector is already there. The rotary knob for the volume is very fine.

Sound: slightly warm but open. Huge musical with an open and wide soundstage. Sufficient power for headphones with high efficiency. If you want to play in a balanced way, there is even more than enough power (not yet tried but twice as much power). My balanced cable is on the way.

Functional: in terms of interface, I think things can always be better, but acceptable. I am very happy that I can install apps from the Google Play Store myself. This makes it possible for example to use your favorite radio app or Spotify / Qobuz / Tidal via the built-in WiFi.

Pairing: I had been looking for a good match for years with my Oppo PM3 headphones with which I have a love-hate relationship. I have found it now! The Oppo is very neutral and the N5ii brings just that little bit of heat and also a much wider stereo image because the PM3 does not play very wide. Voices and instruments remain beautifully central, so the complete picture is right! I have done a few small adjustments with the built-in 10-band equalizer and the quality does not deteriorate. It sounds really great now! This is enjoyment!

In terms of price / quality, this is really phenomenal. Special thanks for advancedmp3players because the delivery was very fast and correct!
