HIFiMAN RE262
Hifiman hits a sweet spot!
The Hifiman RE262 is a great product punching above its price fighting hard for a place at the top of its market sector. You may not have heard a lot about Hifiman but just check out the reviews, these are a great set of headphones with a nice warmth to the clan and clear sound, vocals are well filled in, treble is smooth and the bass is has a nice depth without being overpowering giving a nice broad sound stage! The Hifiman RE262 sounds almost speaker like as the sounds are not limited to the space of your head or ears on many occasions Hifiman RE262 manages to sound 'out of ear' and 'behind the head'. Even with this wide stage, RE262 does not make it artificial sounding. |
Construction
The construction of the Hifiman RE262 is an in-ear sound isolating headphone with a strong yet light metal housing which make them very comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time, Looks wise there is no fancy bare alloy design but a straight forward keep it simple and effective approach which is definitely function over form, solid and straightforward. You would be mistaken in thinking these are just moulded plastic casing but they are in fact metal finished in a gloss black. |

The RE262 has a 9mm moving coil type driver with neodymium magnets and comes prewired for use with balanced output portable or desktop amps, this is a feature I’ve occasionally encountered with high end, full size headphones, but it is almost unheard of in the world of in-ear headphones. What this means is the RE-262’s signal cable comes fitted with a balanced 3.5mm mini-jack plug with four rather than the expected three conductor sleeves to be compatible with balanced amps |
Summary
The RE-262’s have a big, smooth, full-bodied, and almost “lush” sound that is highly engaging and very comfortable to listen to for long periods of time. Designed to be worn with the cable either over ear or dropped down, to wear over ear you need to use the white or grey adaptor and put the left earbud in your right ear and the right ear bud in your left ear due to the shape but the jack adaptors sort the rest out for you.
