The world's lightest eBook Reader
The all new Reader Wi-Fi from Sony, well it is an eBook reader in the same vein as a Kindle, it is ultra slim, lightweight, and has a superior paper-like 6" touch screen display.
First thing you will need is a Wi-Fi access point and from there you can access websites such as Google and Wikipedia to find out more on what you're reading and its author. The Reader itself can store up to 1200 books but with the insertion of a micro SWD card you can store tens of thousands more. The supported formats for the Sony Reader include EPUB, PDF and TXT so you can read virtually anything.
The 6" clear touch screen requires a simple touch with your finger to bring up your stored books and a simple swipe to turn the page, you can also zoom in and out on each page by simply pinching your fingers together or apart and a little press of the back button returned the text to its original size, simples!
Now an eBook reader would be pretty useless without a bookmark facility to take you back to the page you left your book at when you nodded off and the Sony has you covered there along with a cool search and zoom feature which allows you to find passages and zoom in on them.
The Sony eBook reader is small and lightweight and available in a choice of 3 colours, measuring no bigger than a standard paperback with its 6" it weighs in at only 170 grams and measures only 8.8mm in depth with contoured, tapered edges for easy holding without strain the Sony Reader is a winner in my book, pardon the blatant pun!
Now a quick question for you avid readers out there, how long would you like the battery in a devise like this to last for? A few days, a week, a couple of weeks? well the Sony Reader will let you read for up to a month on a single charge, that should see you through the holidays if you are one of the fortunate few who can afford a month long holiday at a time, we can only dream....
I don't know about you but sitting reading off a computer monitor for any length of time gives be a bit of eye strain so reading on the screen of the Sony Reader is a treat. With it's crystal clear paper like screen there is no back light and no flicker to give you eye strain and the screen is completely clear and visible even in bright sunlight but I'll need to take Sony's word for that as sadly, November in Edinburgh doesn't allow me to check that feature out. However there are 8 adjustable font sizes and adjustable contrast and brightness to allow you to set the page up just as you want it to make you reading as enjoyable as possible.
It's the cool features that draw me to the Sony Reader and the notes and highlights option is just super cool, it can actually recognise whether you're using you finger or a stylus on the screen allowing you to write your own notes on the page or highlight text you may want to refer back to or if you stumble across a BIG word you can call up a dictionary to help out, a feature the like of myself will use often haha..
On board there are 12 dictionaries 2 English (British/American) and 10 translation (to and from French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Italian) but nothing to make Rabbie Burns any easier to understand. To activate the dictionary function you simply double tap the word in question and it's meaning will pop up or you can translate it into one of the 5 preinstalled languages.
This next feature is one for the talented! You can actually listen to music while reading on the Sony eBook Reader, Audio playback lets you plug in your headphones and set some background ambiance as you sit back, relax and get into your latest author.
