CCD sensors were the standard until recently, when CMOS started becoming the technology of choice for higher-quality cameras. The ClearVid CMOS Sensor has a higher resolution and better sensitivity, with a wider dynamic range. The new Exmor processing technology adds a column A/D converter to the sensor, realising ultra high resolution with greater sensitivity and lower noise. Another advantage of the ClearVid CMOS Sensor is that it runs cooler and needs less power, so we can fit more electronics on fewer chips, in smaller and more battery efficient cameras.

The magic of CMOS
The ClearVid CMOS Sensor reduces the picture noise (or fuzziness) that can ruin your footage when you shoot in low light.  Driven by the extra power of the new Bionz image processor, this Sony unique sensor uses larger pixels to capture more light and a higher density of green pixels to increase resolution.
Improved light sensitivity and resolution, including the unique structure of the CMOS Sensor to reduce smear and widen dynamic range, give you brighter, crisper images.
